Gearhead Joseph Steig just alerted me to this oh-so-gnarly matte GT-R located in Singapore:
You can see more pictures here at Jalopnik. How cool is that image of R2D2 yelling "X@*#@!!"?
Supposedly this car has been wrapped in film instead of painted. According to someone stating that they are the owner:
The matt car is based in Singapore. It took about 6 days for the car to be wrapped in a matt black "sticker".
Cost of the job was about US$1700 as compared to a full matt black paint job which would have cost about US$2300. The obvious advantage of the sticker job is that if you get tired of it, just peel it off and polish. Unlike paint which if you want to revert to the original color would cost you another US$2300.
Maintenance is super easy... just wash or jet off. No polishing.
Very cool. I've just started riding my bike to work instead of driving so that I can bank enough carbon credits to justify flogging a GT-R around when the day comes that I'm able to afford running one. When that day comes, it will be a matte one. I love the idea of the matte wrapper being a replaceable protective finish that keeps the underlying paint fresh and new, too.

I wonder how much weight that sticker adds.

Yeah, that GT-R is something special.... but I've been riding my damn bike back and forth to work for years to offset that matt black 1994 wide body 911 I need to get one of these days...

Well, GT-R is not my style, but I must speak up and say that I've heard before about the wrapping thing, but it was also in the far east. Anyhow, I have to say it's looking pretty good :)
